review: a hunger like no other

A mythic warrior who'll stop at nothing to possess her . . .

After enduring years of torture from the vampire horde, Lachlain MacRieve, leader of the Lykae Clan, is enraged to find the predestined mate he's waited millennia for is a vampire. Or partly one. This Emmaline is a small, ethereal half Valkyrie/half vampire, who somehow begins to soothe the fury burning within him.

A vampire captured by her wildest fantasy . . .

Sheltered Emmaline Troy finally sets out to uncover the truth about her deceased parents -- until a powerful Lykae claims her as his mate and forces her back to his ancestral Scottish castle. There, her fear of the Lykae -- and their notorious dark desires -- ebbs as he begins a slow, wicked seduction to sate her own dark cravings.

An all-consuming desire . . .

Yet when an ancient evil from her past resurfaces, will their desire deepen into a love that can bring a proud warrior to his knees and turn a gentle beauty into the fighter she was born to be?

First and foremost, I hate this cover. It does no justice to the story and it actually made me hold off on purchasing the book for quite a while. SO -- do not judge this book by its incredibly cheesy cover.

I haven't really been able to sink my teeth (har har har, pun intended) into a book for a while now. At first I thought it was me -- maybe I had been spending so much time on writing that reading was, for whatever reason, no longer enjoyable. But then I got AHLNO on my kindle and I devoured it in two days, reading well into the night. Kresley Cole, you are my new hero.

This story made me laugh so hard I got tears in my eyes. I swooned, I cheered Emma on, and then I laughed some more. The world Cole has created is so bloody fantastic I lack the words to describe it. You don't have to like the paranormal to enjoy this book -- at its heart it is a true romance novel and one of the best I have ever read. The dialogue was witty and believable, the action was top notch, and the ensemble cast was absolutely fabulous. It did take a little bit of back and forth to catch on to everyone's names, but once I did it was easy to keep them all straight.

AHLNO is technically the second in Cole's Immortals After Dark series, which I didn't realize when I started it. I already started the first, a novella entitled The Warlord Wants Forever. The rest of the series, in order (because I am easily confused), is as follows:

The Warlord Wants Forever (novella)
A Hunger Like No Other
No Rest for the Wicked
Wicked Deeds on a Winter's Night
Dark Needs at Night's Edge
Dark Desires After Dusk
Kiss of a Demon King
Deep Kiss of Winter
Pleasure of a Dark Prince
Demon from the Dark
Dreams of a Dark Warrior
Lothaire

How much do I love discovering a series after all the books have come out?? SO MUCH!  5/5 stars.

  1. I wish all authors would number their books in some way when they come out in stores. It eerrks me to no end when I get a book that I am excited to read and find out when I get home it is in the middle of the series. I am the type that has to read them in order, just in case there is some background etc. that I need to know, so I have a lot of books that are waiting to be read as they are part of a series and I don't have a lot of money to go and get all the others so I can read the one I got! So for future reference to all authors out there, PLEASE (if only for my sanity lol) some how find a way to label on the cover which number the book is in a series. THANK YOU!
